TWO new supermarkets are coming to Gloucester.
Mid Counties Co-operative is to open a branch in King's Walk Shopping Centre and a Tesco Express is going into  The Eastgate Shopping Centre.
Bosses from the Co-op were handed the keys to the former Animal store last week.
King's Walk general manager Peter White said the supermarket is due to open in March.
It's nearest food stores are in Tredworth and Longlevens.
Mr White said:"They will start work soon and are looking at a three month fit out time."
He said trade was down in the centre, although Saturdays were busier at the moment because of Christmas.
"It's a testing time but a lot of our tenants seem to be trading fairly well and it's nothing to worry about."
Meanwhile Tesco has confirmed it will be opening an Express store in the former JJB Sports shop by Southgate Street entrance of The Eastgate Shopping Centre.
Tesco already has Express stores in Grosvenor Street and London Road in Gloucester.
Eastgate manager Jason Robinson said: "Obviously we're really pleased that such a big name store is coming to The Eastgate.
"It's great news for the city centre, as it will give members of the public a better shopping experience overall.
"It's great to be able to say that we now have a supermarket in the centre, and it will be really useful for those who just need to get a few kitchen essentials whilst they're in town.
"Since the opening of Marks and Spencer over the summer, we've continued to develop and improve the centre and I can assure you, there is still a lot more to come."
