More people are being encouraged to donate their organs in Gloucestershire.
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to increase the number of people in the county willing to make the life-saving donations.
The Organ Donation Board is now to be led by dedicated new chairman, Ian Mean, Editor-in-Chief of The Citizen.
Ian was instrumental in setting up the long running 'Save a Life' campaign in The Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo.
Inspired by the stories he heard through the papers' support for the organ donation campaign, Ian is committed to further increasing awareness of organ donation in the county.
Trust chairman Clair Chilvers said: "We are delighted that Ian has agreed to be our new Chair.
"We are certain that his undoubted enthusiasm and commitment will help our board continue to thrive and reach out to the people of Gloucestershire."
The donation group continues to thrive under the direction of Dr Alex D'Agapeyeff and aims to present the facts about organ donation and increase the number of local people signing up to be an organ donor.
Ian Mean said: "It is a shocking fact that in 2009, 443 people in the UK died while waiting due to the critical shortage of donors.
"I am proud to be part of the donation board and am determined to help increase awareness of need for donors and the gift of life they give to others.
"If we can simply increase local donations by 50% we will be helping to save many lives."

"The gift of life is the most precious thing we can give," said Dr D'Agapeyeff, clinical lead for organ donation at the trust. "Our aim is to make sure everyone from hospital staff to families and relatives understand and appreciate the need for signing on to the NHS Organ Donation Register."
