Is Paul Buckle about to leave Cheltenham Town?

Paul Buckle's turbulent three-month stint as Cheltenham Town manager appears to be over.

It is understood that Buckle met chairman Paul Baker this morning to discuss the recent poor run of form and the future and he is now set to leave the club.

In charge for just 13 games, the former Torquay United, Bristol Rovers and Luton Town boss has won just once during a wretched run that has seen the club sink towards the League Two drop zone.

Buckle was parachuted in to the Whaddon Road hotseat after the sacking of boss Mark Yates in late November, taking the post the day after Yates had left the club.

He was hand-picked by the board of directors, despite being out of the game for nearly 18 months and the fact that he was living in the United States,

He drew his first game, against Oxford United, but then came a pivotal 1-0 loss to Dover Athletic in the FA Cup second round – a move that threaten to derail the club's finances.

Hamstrung by being unable to operate in the transfer market, Buckle had to wait until January 3 for his solitary win as Robins boss – as three Liverpool loanees inspired a 2-1 win at Oxford United.

But it proved to be a false dawn and results have taken a nosedive since a battling and encouraging 1-1 draw with Luton Town nearly three weeks ago.

A 3-1 defeat at Dagenham and Redbridge was followed by a tumultuous deadline day where five new signings came into the club in an attempt to revive fortunes.

But a 3-1 defeat at home by Burton Albion saw the supporters get restless and last night's 2-0 loss at Southend was marked by "we want Buckle out" chants from the Robins faithful.
