The cost of running Gloucestershire Police Authority trebled between 2001 and 2010/11.
Figures show the amount spent went up from £245,000 to £751,000.
Authority members expenses went up by 253 per cent from £74,000 to £188,000.
Former chairman of the now defunct authority, Councillor Rob Garnham, has defended the increase, saying the organisation provided value for money.
The authority has been replaced by Police and Crime Commissioner Martin Surl who says part of his role it to keep costs down.
