Hereford United 1 Cheltenham Town 2 (aet) KAID Mohamed's 114th minute header booked Cheltenham Town's place against Premier League Everton in the third round of the FA Cup at the expense of old rivals Hereford United. On a night of tension and drama to rival anything in the club's recent history, an epic tie appeared to be destined for a dreaded penalty shoot-out, locked at 1-1 deep into extra-time. But substitute Mohamed met Billy Jones' beautiful cross with a glancing header that flew in off the far post as the Robins' Everton dream became reality. They finally ended their long wait for a win over Hereford, dating back to 1999, and the visit of David Moyes' stars including Phil Neville, Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines will net the League Two club in excess of £200,000. Cheltenham made by far the brighter start at a packed Edgar Street, but once again they found themselves up against a well organised Hereford back four and goalscoring chances were rare. Centre half Steve Elliott reached Jones' corner in the second minute, but his side-footed effort was blocked and Hereford scrambled the ball clear. Hereford lost leading scorer Ryan Bowman to injury in the 16th minute and the Football League side remained on top until midway through the half when Sam Clucas forced Scott Brown into a routine save, but Cheltenham lost their impetus. Russ Penn needed lengthy treatment after a challenge from Will Evans, but the energetic midfielder was able to continue. A mistake from Jones gave Bulls substitute Phil Marsh a sight of goal, but Alan Bennett made a perfectly timed challenge to avert the danger. Darren Carter then saw a well-struck free-kick safely gathered by James Bittner before Evans sent a low shot across Brown and wide of the far post at the other end. Bittner had to stretch to touch McGlashan's header from Jake Taylor's right wing cross over the bar as neither side could find a way through. Brown claimed a dangerous cross from Marsh well and the Robins' last line of defence distinguished himself in the 45th minute. Brian Smikle's cross after some slick passing fell to Clucas at the far post and he connected well with a first time effort that appeared destined for the net, but Brown reacted superbly to turn it around the post. It was one of best and undoubtedly most important saves in his long career at Cheltenham because three minutes into stoppage time the Robins were ahead. McGlashan had switched sides with Taylor and operating on the left he managed to move goalside of a hesitant Andy Gallinagh on the goal line. The ex-Robins defender was in a horrible position and he was adjudged to have tripped the winger from behind, with referee Dean Whitestone immediately pointing to the spot. Birthday boy Harrad, who netted in the original match at Whaddon Road last week, stepped up and confidently stroked in his seventh goal of the season, sparking wild scenes of jubilation from the travelling masses in the away terrace. Cheltenham kept things tight early in the second half, prompting Hereford boss Martin Foyle to send on ex-Robins winger Marley Watkins after an hour. Brown was equal to another shot from Clucas after a free-kick routine involving Joe Heath and Marsh. Sido Jombati kept a remarkably cool head to cut out a low cross from Marsh into the dangerzone and play his way out of trouble as Hereford threatened again. The non-leaguers pressed and scored a deserved leveller in the 75th minute and it was a soft one to concede. Clucas had several attempts to deliver from the right, but the wide man eventually sent in a teasing cross which evaded everyone and crept inside the far post with Brown helpless. As if things were not tense enough already, the tie moved into extra-time as the fog thickened around Edgar Street. The opening period of the added 30 minutes were cagey and nervy as expected, with a free-kick from Taylor which cleared the bar the only attempt on goal of note. Elliott leapt highest to meet Jones' corner in the 110th minute, but Bittner gathered safely and with penalties looming, Mohamed won it at the death.
