Gloucestershire College is ploughing ahead with its plan for a brand new Forest of Dean campus, appointing architects to draw up plans.
The college wants to move away from its Five Acres site to Cinderford's Northern Quarter, which is being developed into a business, employment and education hub as part of the town's wider regeneration.
It has chosen Gloucester-based Roberts Limbrick Architects to develop the plans for "an exemplar sustainable college campus". A selection panel chose the practice from a shortlist of seven after more than 20 expressions of interest were submitted.
Over the next three months, the team at Roberts Limbrick, led by Director, Joe Roberts, will work closely with the college's internal and external stakeholders in the Forest of Dean to design a new campus.
The designs will include a separate independent sixth form, jointly run by Gloucestershire College and Dene Magna School, alongside a shared social 'hub' and a vocational Gloucestershire College Royal Forest of Dean (RFD) Campus building.
Lynne Craig, site principal at Five Acres, said: "The appointment of Roberts Limbrick Architects means that we can now begin to realise our vision for a fantastic modern FE learning environment in the Forest of Dean.
"We are moving in to an exciting phase of planning for the new campus and I look forward to hearing the feedback from our stakeholders which will help to shape the new campus and the future of further education in the Forest of Dean."
Steve Brady, headteacher at Dene Magna, said: "Roberts Limbrick presented us with an insight that they share our vision for the new college. We are excited about working with them on creating the best possible use for the buildings and surrounding area, so that the Forest of Dean as a whole can benefit from this.
"Work is starting on how we shape the insides of the buildings in a way that will complement the outstanding Teaching and Learning that the students will be experiencing. It really is an exciting time for the Forest of Dean."
