The message from the Gloucester community to the grieving family of Zac Evans is loud and clear – 'we are thinking of you'.

Nightclub Butlers has already seen dozens of people donate to a collection it is holding to support a campaign to give the 19-year-old a hero's send-off following his tragic and untimely death last weekend.

Justin Hudson, who runs the Eastgate Street venue, is continuing to urge his customers to give generously to the cause after being overwhelmed by their support last night.

"Friday night was very heart-warming," said Justin who, despite admitting it was a relatively quiet night, was pleased to see the amount of donations coming in.

"Nothing can reverse the terrible events which have happened and all we can do is show that people care and assist the family."

Bar staff will continue to urge revellers to help fill the collection buckets at the venue tonight and into next week. So far, donors of all ages have made a concerted effort to donate at the bar, including a pensioner from Kingsholm who walked there in the cold weather on Friday night.

Justin is also calling on his bar's 62,000 Facebook and Twitter followers to dig deep this weekend.

"After speaking with Zac's family, everybody is in absolute disbelief to what has happened," added Justin, who said people are also filling his buckets with notes. "We are now just turning our efforts into drumming up as much verbal and spiritual support for them as possible.

"I am unashamedly using every ounce of our social media platform to get the city behind us following this terrible event. This is just another example of Gloucester coming good."

In just two days, a trust set up to cover the cost of the Tuffley teenager's funeral raised an incredible £3,500. Zac died following an incident outside the Pike and Musket pub in Tuffley in the early hours of last Saturday morning.

Tributes have continued to pour in following the death of the former Beaufort Academy pupil, who was known as "Sparky" due to the energy he had.

His mother, Sylvia said: "My heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sent messages of support or love on Zac's tragic death.

"It has been very comforting to know how much people care.

"Thank you to the generous people who have contributed to Sparky's fund. I am overwhelmed by your generosity."

Ewen Anthony Reynolds, 44, is accused of murdering Zac and attempting to murder his friend Keaton Jones, 22.
