Nic Corrigan wants to create a "new chapter" at Cinderford but admits he can't look any further than preserving the club's place in National One first.

Dockham Road's long-term director of rugby signed a new two-year deal with the Foresters this week and has already set his stall out.

Corrigan made clear an intention to retain and recruit players for the future and his plan to let the team perform to a considered and innovative style of play.

There is a vision to bring Cinderford back to the fore but Corrigan says baby steps are needed to get there.

He said: "The first thing for us to do is to maintain our National One status and then we will look at player retention. That will give us the chance to appraise a few players and discuss where they are.

"We know January is the time teams can talk to any clubs or players so retention is ongoing.

"We have a very consistent and talented squad and, with some additions to build the character in the squad, we can build a new chapter in the club's history.

"What that means is maintaining our position in the league and, ever since I arrived, that has always been the goal."

Cinderford welcome Blackheath to Dockham Road on Saturday – a team on the rise this season after securing their fifth consecutive win with victory over Wharfdale last weekend.

One of their stand-out results has to be over Rosslyn Park. Their last defeat was at home to Coventry, a team which beat Cinderford at Butts Park Arena last Saturday.

The Foresters are seeking a new style of assault – an "entrepreneurial" work ethic that Corrigan hopes will give the team licence to thrill when it starts clicking into place.

The team can continue to build on that game plan against Blackheath.

Corrigan continued: "We've got the structure and framework there – there's no doubt about that – and this will be a chance to enforce that.

"We have had a chance to be very honest and ruthless with ourselves this week and carry that into the next game.

"We have respect for Blackheath. They are a traditional club that has been heavily involved in Barbarian rugby and have a great brand of rugby.

"We will hopefully show them a good reception when they come to our ground."
