Brimscombe & Thrupp 3 Thatcham Town 0

BRIMSCOMBE and Thrupp eased their relegation worries with a fine win over Thatcham Town in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

After seeing off mid-table opposition in Oxford City Nomads with a total dominant display last Saturday, the Lillywhites showed a more dogged workman like performance to achieve the same result.

The home side thought they'd made an early breakthrough when Aaron Nash was put through and finished smartly but he'd strayed offside and the goal was chalked off.

However, on 20 minutes there was no doubt about Brimscombe's first. A corner deep to the back post saw Ben Snook's shot canon off a Thatcham player and into the back of the net.

The rest of the half saw both sides probing each other's defence but it stayed 1-0 at the break.

The second half started at a frantic pace with Thatcham piling on the pressure to find the equaliser.

On 53 minutes though the home side stretched their lead with a great show of counter attacking play.

A Thatcham foray forward broke down, which David Woodfield capitalised on, playing a delightful ball through to Aaron Nash, who beat the defender for pace and coolly finished in the bottom right hand corner of the goal.

It took just another seven minutes for Brimscombe to put the game beyond their visitors.

Another corner saw the ball fall to Snook, who shot goalwards, where substitute Chris Greenhough stuck out his foot and guided the ball into the net.

Brimscombe saw the game out to collect another three points and climb two places ahead of a free weekend.
