Drug dealer Everton Clarke, who sent more than £18,500 of his illicit profits back to his Jamaican homeland, has been jailed for four years.
Clarke, 38, from Gloucester, was making money from dealing cocaine and heroin in the city while claiming housing benefit on the grounds he was unemployed, Gloucester crown court was told.
His crimes were brought to an end last July, however, when police spotted him opening up a dustbin and taking out a baby's nappy, said prosecutor James Haskell.
Suspicious of what he was up to, officers went to the bin outside a house in Dean's Walk, Gloucester, and opened it to take a look at the nappy. Just as they were doing so, Clarke rushed out of the house, grabbed the nappy and made off.
Mr Haskell said Clarke vaulted over an iron railing fence in his bid to get away but was seen throwing the nappy away. He escaped but left behind a vital clue to his identity, his baseball cap, which fell off during the chase.
When the nappy was retrieved it was found to contain 45g of cocaine worth £2,270 and 34g of heroin valued at £1,800, said the prosecutor.
Further enquiries by police revealed that Clarke had transferred money to Jamaica, as had his girlfriend Shanalee Dalling, 28, who had sent £16,238.
Clarke, of Buttercup Lawn, Abbeydale, Gloucester, pleaded guilty to removing criminal property, £18,564.50 from England and Wales by transferring money to Jamaica between August 2005 and June 2013.
He also admitted possessing heroin and cocaine with intent to supply on 28th July last year.
Judge Jamie Tabor QC jailed him for a total of four years.
Dalling, of the same address, denied removing criminal property from England and Wales, a total of £16,238.69, by transferring it to Jamaica between July 2005 and March 2013.
She walked free from court after Mr Haskell said the Crown did not propose to proceed against her and the charge could be left on the court file.
